SliceManager cutover Monday

Heads up – we’ll be switching to new versions of our backend software and SliceManager Monday morning. manage.slicehost.com site may experience minor outages as we move things into place and squash any last minute bugs. There will be no service impact to your Slices during this time, but the webconsole, rescue mode, adding slices and upgrades will be unavailable while the site is down.

We’ll be around Monday to keep an eye on things, if after logging into the new site you notice any problems – please let us know. Once things have settled down, we plan to resume new signups and have some exciting news to share.

  1. Very cool. I am excited.

  2. Was ‘Monday morning’ picked for any particular reason? (I ask as a curiosity, not because I have a problem with it.)

    Bring it on!

  3. Weekend usage is pretty light. On Monday we’ll be ready all day to handle any potential problems.

  4. Great news to read guys!

    Good luck on it!

    looks forward to the news

  5. That’s great to hear! :) I hope the launch goes well.

  6. Looking forward to hearing more and getting a chance to signup. Honing my skills in VMware so I don’t noob up too bad.

  7. It’s good to see you’re finally getting on top of this, although I won’t be joining despite being in the waiting list.

I’m sure the service is rock solid but I really didn’t feel like waiting endlessly for more reasons why the service was re-delayed.

I understand that such things can happen, but one shouldn’t expect people to wait indefinitely.

I hope that this is a solid guide for those who have been waiting months for some kind of action.

  8. Brendan, as a customer of Slicehosts and a developer myself, I have to say that I would rather have a working product that doesn’t cause me grief a few months later than expected than Windows ME.

You can choose to go elsewhere but you won’t get the benefits of a slice.

  9. I’m not a customer of Slicehost, but I can appreciate them taking as long as it takes to get a solid product out. It’s encouraging to see that they are taking very good care of their current customers. And that is important to me.

  10. Looks good guys.

I noticed that extra IPs still isn’t an option. Do you have an ETA on that?

  11. I’m glad that I signed up before slicehost got popular, although they are popular for a reason – awesome, rock solid service. I can count on one hand the number of times I have experienced issues with my server in the last 10 months, and I don’t think any of those issues have been actual outages per se either. It’s worth the wait, although I can see how frustrating it can be to wait. Patience does have its rewards.

  12. @sheldon

Extra IPs are $2 a month, have to email support to request one.

  13. @sheldon,

As it happens, I moved over to the dedicated virtual servers (mt) run.

They aren’t ‘Windows Me’ like, either.

I’ve just checked my order and the delay is approximately 10 weeks. Or just under 3 months.

Sure, if I triple the slice and pay for it for 3 years, the delay falls markedly – no offence to the slice guys, but that strikes me as a fast way to make a buck.

It also means servers will fill up a lot faster, surely?

I’m happy where I landed, but may well have a use for the slice as it stands for another project.

  14. Sorry, make that two years, not three.
