First of all, many congratulations Slicehost for reaching 10 000 slices ! :)
Thanks for the stats that you provided in this blog post. I think they are very interesting.
Talking about statistics: would it possible to publish the number of slices that were created for each distribution (“distro”)? It would be even better if you could distinguish between versions in each distribution. For example: 2000 slices created with Ubuntu 6.06, 4000 slices with Ubuntu 7.10… :)
I seem to recall that you mentioned distribution “market share” in Slices in one of your podcasts (the famous “3-way Handshake” series), but I can’t recall in which one it was, and it’s a bit hard to do a Google Search in Podcasts content! ;-)

I am a customer, not from the beginning, but almost, and I notice that I pay the same price for the same slice than 1.5 years ago.
The general direction of the market is towards faster/larger computers and/or smaller prices. When I choosed Slicehost, there were few cheaper competitors. Now, things are different (in France, you can now get a dedicated physical machine for nine euros / month and a virtual one for six euros).
Wouldn’t it make sense to allow users to get a larger slice for the same price after N months?

+1 for lower prices
Seems like linode.com and others are less expensive and provide more resources :(
You guys are awesome, just hope you keep up with the competition.

I think it’s worth every cent – well done!

And Linode does exactly what I suggest (raising the capacities of the machine, to let faithful customers enjoy the benefits of the general progress of computers):

I’m not a customer of them, I cannot say if they are good or not, but at least they are not stuck to the initial prices/capacities.

Hi Stephane,
I am sure when we get to our 5 year anniversary we will have some similar offers!
Coming up to two years for us now.
Many thanks.
